Gimli Seniors Residence

INTRODUCING: "A Home in Progress”:
A project of Gimli's Age Friendly Committee.
An affordable residence for Gimli area seniors designed with their special needs addressed in the design and amenities. The residence will be convenient, safe and comfortable with appropriate activities and services!
This residence will be an ideal place for those seniors who are moving toward an easier lifestyle that includes friends and services. The Gimli Seniors' Residence Inc. Board's Mission is:
The Gimli Seniors' Residence is a non-profit, community driven, 55+ organization that will provide an affordable, safe, comfortable, socially active and friendly environment in which "Aging in Place” will occur in an inclusive, independent lifestyle.
The Board of the Gimli Seniors' Residence Inc. consists of local residents who have conceived a plan to provide a 35-suite complex on North Colonization Road. The facility will provide non-profit and affordable rental suites. It will meet the need for increased housing for the area's growing retirement community.
The property has been generously provided by the RM of Gimli, and is just 1.3km from shopping, library, banking, and professional services.
A mix of one and two bedroom suites is proposed, each with a small kitchen, bathroom with seated shower, and a balcony. The common areas will include space for group activities like cards, games, exercise and an entertainment unit. Additional social activities will be available next door at the New Horizons 55+ Activity Centre. A well-appointed kitchen will provide an optional meal program similar to a congregate system. A partnership with Gimli Senior Resource will also provide many services to the residence.
The Building Schedule for this residence is dependent on the establishment of a basic fund to initiate financing from various Manitoba government housing grants which will include guidelines regarding design and rent levels. The remainder of the construction cost will be covered by a mortgage. It is essential that the community show that it is in support of the project by contributing to the basic fund. All amounts received will be held in trust at the Noventis Credit Union in Gimli, where donation and pledge forms are available.
