The Region

aerial Photo of Harbour Gimli is situated in the Eastern Interlake region of Manitoba, 80 km north of the city of Winnipeg, on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg, which is the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world, and the 3rd largest hydroelectric reservoir, after Lake Superior and Lake Victoria. 
 
The town lies at latitude is 50º 37’ N and longitude is 96º 59’ W.  The elevation of Gimli (town site) is 223 metres above sea level.  The temperatures average –20.2º C in January and 18.6º C in July.     
The area is 317 sq km – the Municipality is 33.6 km in length and 8 km in width.  It is bounded on the east by Lake Winnipeg, on the West by the RM of Armstrong, on the north by the RM of Bifrost and on the south by the RM of St. Andrews and the Town of Winnipeg Beach. 
 
The local school district is the Evergreen School Division #22.
