COMMUNITY GARDENS

Do you enjoy growing your own vegetables? Would you like to see if you have a green thumb?

With the cost of food going up every year, gardening is a healthy way to supplement your diet.

This year you can enjoy being out in nature, meeting other gardeners, and watching your veggies grow.

The Gimli Environmental Advisory Committee has established over 40 gardens.

The committee rent these out each year to those who love to garden and may not have the space to do so where they live.

These gardens are located to the North of the Gimli Horizons 55+ building and is accessible from the same road.

The large beds are 10 x 20 ft. There are 21 of them, and they rent for $20 a year.

The smaller raised beds are 8 x 4 and rent for $15 a year.

GEAC supplies a rototiller, weed wacker, lawn mower, and hoses for gardeners use.

Last year was very wet, and the usual opening date of May Long weekend, was delayed due to the wet conditions.

Plans are to install a chain link fence around the gardens this year to discourage the friendly deer.
