The Rural Municipality of Gimli and the Gimli Environmental Advisory Committee have been working diligently on acquiring Blue Flag status for Gimli Beach and are extremely proud to have achieved this status in May 2015.
The portion of Gimli Beach that received Blue Flag status is a 600-metre stretch of sandy beach in the heart of Gimli, located between the main harbour pier at the end of Centre Street and Barney Thomas Drive. The beach area includes a boardwalk which is used by walkers, cyclists, and sightseers.
Thousands of people, residents and visitors alike, flock to Gimli Beach for a variety of reasons from a pleasant stroll, the opportunity to observe the scenery, family gatherings, sunbathing, swimming, or taking part in summer activities such as boardsailing or beach volleyball. A large play structure is located on the beach and is a popular destination for families with young children.
Newly renovated, accessible washroom facilities are open seasonally to the public. The beach area also offers outdoor showers, life-saving equipment, first aid stations, concession stand, beach volleyball, water sport rentals, expanded playground and summer park patrols during the bathing season. The area adjacent to the beach boasts a variety of restaurants, snack bars and shops, all within easy walking distance.
